First thing you notice right away is the background music. It's not needed and is so loud that it is distracting. It's actually hard to hear what some of your interviewees are saying because of how loud the music is. If you decide to use background music, it should be to match your video in some way. I don't see it matching here and should be removed or at least brought down in volume. The audio levels are all over the place and need to be edited so that they all hit between 0 and -6 in your FCP audio meter. You need to go back and edit all of your audio to match the levels better. Interviews are shot pretty well but the other really noticeable thing is the jump cuts. I should never see jump cuts in interviews like this. I think we see so many of them because you don't have enough b-roll footage. Could you have shown us a close up shot of the lights on the ground before they were put up on the poles? Maybe we could have seen the prep the guys on the ground have to do BEFORE the lights are put up. It's great that you have footage of the guy in the lift installing the actual light. That's great. But besides the sped up footage of the old and new lights at night, that's all you have. When Mike talks about LED lights and how they show up on cars and in homes, you could have shown us b-roll of those examples. The Mayor talks about the new lights pointing down. Do you know why that is important? Because of the shearwater birds that our county has to deal with. If the Mayor didn't mention that, you should have in a VO. The story is informative and you do a good job at showing us why these new LED lights are a good idea for our island. I'd like you to go back and edit the audio, remove the music, and see if you can cover up the jump cuts with better b-roll if you have it. 2.8 points.
